Everything Seems Possible at Santa Clara

Growing up in Southern California, my mom and I always lived in affluent areas but were less fortunate than our neighbors.

College seemed out of reach for me compared to my peers. Even though I finished in the top six in my class, I had to face the fact that I could get in to some great schools but may not be able to afford to attend. It was a stressful time for me—I had put so much time and effort into my education and was not sure it would pay off.

When I was accepted to Santa Clara University and received the message containing my financial aid package and scholarships it was such a huge relief! My mom and I scheduled a formal tour, and immediately after the tour I committed to Santa Clara—on campus, that same day. I had an overwhelming feeling that this was the place for me.

Even now, near the end of my second year here, I look around every day and feel fortunate. I’m getting the best education possible.

It may be difficult to visualize the impact of your gift on individual students, but please know that it helps so much. If it weren’t for your generosity, I wouldn’t be here, and some of my friends wouldn’t be here either. Thanks to your support through the Santa Clara Fund, everything seems possible at Santa Clara.

As part of one of my classes, I had the opportunity to tutor younger students at San Jose’s Sacred Heart Community Center who weren’t proficient in English. While helping them in math and reading, I’d try and give them confidence that college is in their future—because I am an example that anything is possible.

Thank you for enabling me to be part of the Santa Clara family, and for allowing me to show the next generation that college can be part of their future too!
