Fall Quarter Study Abroad Peer Advisor
Peer Advisor Overview:
Peer Advisors guide students in the study abroad process and provide front-line advising online to students seeking study abroad opportunities. Peer advisors will participate in outreach activities, and assist with projects as needed.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be undergraduate students. Previous participation in an SCU-approved study or intern program is strongly preferred.
- Applicants should be available to begin the position the Saturday of Student Welcome Weekend.
- Applicants should have the ability to work 10 hours per week during the fall term. Strong preference for shifts during office hours between 1 pm-5 pm M-F with flexibility needed for occasional evening and weekend events, upon request. We will work to accommodate the school schedule.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advising
- Lead Peer Advisor Hours and Info Sessions during scheduled shifts, as assigned.
- Meet with students in-person or virtually, as needed.
- Provide information to prospective study abroad students about SCU’s portfolio of study abroad programs in email advising, virtual chat advising, and other communications.
Events & Communications
- Assist with coordinating study abroad events such as International Education Week, Informational Workshops and Webinars, Global Opportunities Expo, Pre-Departure Orientations, and Re-entry programming.
- Represent SCU Study Abroad at campus events such as department info sessions, Family Weekend, Preview Days, Transfer Day, etc.
- Publicize study abroad events (electronic bulletin board flyers, email communications, etc.) to appropriate audiences.
Marketing & Outreach
- Encourage other returned study abroad students to participate in study abroad sponsored events.
- Conduct classroom visits, as requested by faculty.
- Participate in targeted cohort outreach and resource development (such as BIPOC, STEM, LEAD, etc).
- Assist study abroad staff in various tasks and projects, as assigned.
- Create social media content and post to SCU Study Abroad accounts.
