Global programs are a unique educational and cultural opportunity for all Santa Clara students. There are many academic, career, and personal benefits. For example, students get to live in interesting places, visit historically and culturally significant sites, examine artifacts they’ve only read about or seen on TV, and interact with local students and faculty. Not to mention, many will become students at prestigious universities where they have to adjust and learn to thrive in an academic system that demands independence and initiative.
Approximately one-third of juniors at Santa Clara University study or intern abroad on a quarter, semester, or summer program. Most students go abroad their junior or senior year. However, students can participate in a summer program prior to their sophomore year at SCU so long as they meet the eligibility requirements. Students from all majors are eligible to apply.

Family Newsletter
As students embark on their journey to study or intern abroad, our mission is to keep our students and their families informed. Students are required to complete a FERPA release and Emergency Contacts Form as part of the standard application procedure. Emergency Contacts submitted alongside a duly authorized FERPA release will be automatically included in our Family Newsletter. This newsletter serves as a central hub for important updates and significant milestones, meticulously curated and shared with families on a monthly basis from January to July each year.
