SCU HR Diversity Statement

The Department of Human Resources recognizes the immense value that diversity brings to the Santa Clara University community and the benefit to all when diversity is welcomed, celebrated, and leveraged to further the mission of the University

Santa Clara University embraces our diverse community of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni, a community that is enriched by people of different backgrounds, respectful of the dignity of all its members, and enlivened by our collective efforts to support our students and the university’s mission.

The Department of Human Resources is committed to recruit, retain, develop and engage a diverse and talented workforce at all levels by developing and maintaining trainings, policies, systems, procedures, and practices in support of and in alignment with the University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive to do this through:

  • Regular recruitment outreach efforts to diverse populations to increase the diversity and quality of applicant pools 
  • Engaging in workforce planning with managers and university leaders
  • Highlighting professional development opportunities with a focus on employee retention
  • Developing and leveraging technology to capture and analyze metrics, made data driven decisions, and more effectively deliver resources to further diversity efforts
  • Delivery of trainings that showcase the principles of diversity, equity, & inclusion
  • A focus on consistency, fairness, clear communication, and transparency
  • Collaboration with campus partners and external organizations in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
  • Investments to cultivate and maintain an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful work environment
  • Ensuring access to resources and information for all members of the community, including providing reasonable accommodations as needed
  • Offering a wide array of benefits to eligible employees to support the well-being and needs of our diverse employee base 
  • Creating opportunities and avenues for campus community feedback 

Trainings

  • Inclusive Search Training
    • This training covers SCU’s commitment to diversity, the current diversity profile of the campus, review search committee process, expectations and best practices. The training also includes a discussion of implicit bias to ensure an inclusive search in all stages of the recruitment process. Hiring managers and those serving as search committee chairs must renew their training every three years.

  • Mission to Wellness: The Mission to Wellness program is designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of Faculty and Staff at SCU. We provide diverse programs to meet a range of personal needs, wellness, and active lifestyles. The benefits gained will promote the capacity of university employees to educate leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion and improve the quality of life for its entire community.
