Inclusive Excellence Newsletter - May 2022
Dear SCU Community:
As we approach the final weeks of this academic quarter, we realize that there is a lot going on both inside and outside of the classroom. Please take time to take care of yourselves and to reach out for help and assistance.
The end of the academic term is also about recognizing those students that are graduating, as many of them have overcome tremendous odds to get to this point, especially amid the pandemic. As the Inclusive Excellence area, we are grateful for all of the students that have made a difference within our respective units.

HEED Award Celebration
Thanks for joining us at the Diversity celebration that was held on Thursday, April 28th. The INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. SCU was honored as a 2021 recipient and was among 100 other institutions that received this recognition. As mentioned during the ceremony, this is an acknowledgement of Santa Clara’s ongoing commitment to JEDI initiatives and continued efforts to advance the work that remains. The Inclusive Excellence Division thought it was fitting that SCU’s first HEED Award be housed in the Multicultural Center to recognize and honor the MCC staff and student organizations, past and present, and their contributions to building an inclusive SCU campus culture over the years.

JEDI Strategic Plan Update
The Inclusive Excellence Liaisons are working on developing their drafts of potential implementation plans based on initial SWOT analysis. The Liaisons will be working within their respective areas. A SWOT analysis looks at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats within an organization/unit. Each implementation plan framework consists of defining the strategic goal, key efforts, key indicators, metrics/basis for assessment and determining who is accountable for making the goal happen.
