How To Keep Phishing At Bay

Some tips on how to protect yourself against email/phone/text phishing

It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Once again, the US Cybersecurity Infrastructure & Security Agency (CISA) is using October to remind us about the positive steps we can take to protect ourselves against cyber threats.

Today, we want to highlight recognizing and reporting phishing emails. Although the University uses email protection tools to prevent you from receiving and clicking on URLs or attachments that can take you to bad sites, some still get through. And although the senders can look like legitimate sites, they are not.

Please review these tips below:

Not sure who sent that email or text? Do not respond, do not click anything - just delete it. Be wary of emails, text or phone calls that want you to act right now. Use multifactor authentication and a password manager.

We’ve also added the PhishAlarm button to SCU Gmail as a way for you to let us know an email doesn’t seem right. When in doubt, click that button!
