This is the process the university will follow regarding DMCA notices:
- IT will be notified and asked to identify the person owning the computer.
- IT will disable the computer's interface to the campus network.
- This may require using public computers for academic work.
- Flash drives can transfer files from the network-blocked computer to a public one.
- Contact IT at (408) 554-5700 to discuss the DMCA notice.
- The notice will be explained, including the alleged infringements.
- You may provide legal authorization showing no copyright violation.
- You will be referred to the Dean of Students office.
- Discuss the situation and potential judicial actions with the Dean's office.
- Is this a first-time or repeat violation?
- The Dean's office will refer you back to IT.
- Your system will be inspected to remove all infringing works. IT can assist if needed.
- Network access will be restored once the system is clean.
