DMCA Procedure at SCU

This is the process the university will follow regarding DMCA notices:

  1. IT will be notified and asked to identify the person owning the computer.
  2. IT will disable the computer's interface to the campus network.
    • This may require using public computers for academic work.
    • Flash drives can transfer files from the network-blocked computer to a public one.
  3. Contact IT at (408) 554-5700 to discuss the DMCA notice.
    • The notice will be explained, including the alleged infringements.
    • You may provide legal authorization showing no copyright violation.
  4. You will be referred to the Dean of Students office.
    • Discuss the situation and potential judicial actions with the Dean's office.
    • Is this a first-time or repeat violation?
  5. The Dean's office will refer you back to IT.
    • Your system will be inspected to remove all infringing works. IT can assist if needed.
    • Network access will be restored once the system is clean.
