Health & Wellness

Santa Clara University requires all degree-seeking students enrolled at least half-time in their school or college to have health insurance (excluding M.T.S. Online students).

All F-1 Visa students are required to be enrolled in the school-sponsored insurance plan unless they meet the waiver exception of being a dependent on a plan or enrolled in an employer-based plan that meets all SCU requirements. You will also be asked to provide proof of Medical Evacuation and Repatriation coverage that meets SCU’s requirements; if you do not have this coverage in place, you will be directed to purchase it through Gallagher.

All J-1 visa international students, regardless of number of units, will be automatically enrolled in the SCU-sponsored health insurance plan.  There are no exceptions to this rule.

Student Health Insurance Waiver

Students will be enrolled and charged for the university-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) unless students submit a waiver by the deadline (see below) demonstrating proof of other insurance coverage comparable to SHIP as outlined in the benefit and waiver requirements on the Cowell Center website

To access the online waiver or enrollment forms, please visit www.gallagherstudent.com/scu OR click on the Gallagher Student Health Tile in your SCU Portal

In order for the health insurance charge to be reversed off your student account, your waiver must be approved. Please pay attention to the emails you receive from Gallagher regarding your waiver status and follow the instructions provided as you may be asked to take additional actions in order for your waiver to be approved.  If we are not able to verify your health insurance, your waiver will NOT be approved. If your waiver is not approved, Gallagher will email one of the following waiver status emails below to your SCU email:
