Enhancing Discovery
Archives & Special Collections is filled with a treasure trove of unique information. You can support our efforts to digitize our collections and make them fully accessible and searchable. Support includes the digitization of collections listed below as well as features to optimize searchability.
Course Catalogs Digitization
This project would create digital reproductions of 150+ years of University history, and allow for full text searching of faculty, staff, students, and courses. For many years, the program of commencement activities, which typically transpired over 3-5 days, were included in the catalogs, along with the names and hometowns of graduates.
- Digitize course catalogs (approximately 45,000 pages): $5,600
Student Newspapers Digitization
Digitize almost 100 years of microfilm of the student newspaper, The Santa Clara, providing unprecedented access to thousands of articles focusing on the daily life of students throughout the years. This project would create digital reproductions of the student newspapers and allow for full text searching. Enhanced metadata creation by a digitization vendor would allow students not only to search article titles but also provide for display of individual articles excerpted from master images. This project has the capability to tiered:
- Tier 1: Scanning and generation of searchable full text: $6,000
- Tier 2: Metadata creation for later enhancement: $4,000
- Tier 3: Enhanced metadata creation for article segmentation: $26,000
- Total project cost: $36,000
