Link+ is a service that allows current SCU students, faculty, and staff to borrow materials from over 50 other college & public libraries throughout California, provided that those materials are not available at the SCU libraries.
There are more than 5.7 million titles in Link+. Of these, more than 60% are owned by only one member library. For articles and other library materials not available via Link+, the Library offers our traditional interlibrary loan & document delivery services.
How do I use Link+?
Searching Link+ can be done in two ways:
- You may directly search the entire Link+ database at any time by clicking on Search Link+ from the Library Catalog homepage. From there, you may search by author, title, keyword or subject.
- If your search in the Library Catalog produces no results, you can use the provided link to redo your search in Link+.
If an item is available to borrow on Link+, you will have the option of requesting materials. You will be asked for your name and 11-digit Workday Campus ID.
What can be checked out via Link+?
There are millions of books and other printed materials in Link+.
There are a few restrictions on what can be requested on Link+:
- Many Link+ libraries lend media such as DVDs and CDs, but SCU does not participate in the Link+ media lending program. If you find media in the Link+ catalog, you may be able to request it through your local public library if they participate in the media lending program.
- Items owned by the SCU libraries cannot be borrowed from Link+ unless all SCU copies are currently checked out or otherwise unavailable.
- Journals, journal articles, and reference materials are generally not available through Link+.
For any materials not available through the SCU libraries or Link+, please use our interlibrary loan service to request them.
Can I go to the other Link+ libraries to check out items?
No, SCU no longer participates in the Visiting Patron program.
If your local public library does participate in the Visiting Patron program, you should be able to use your public library card to visit the other participating libraries.
You can continue to request items from these libraries for delivery to the University library through traditional Link+.
How will I receive Link+ items?
Link+ items will usually be available within 3 days for you to pick up at the Library Help Desk. You'll receive an email notice when your item has arrived.
You may monitor the status of your Link+ requests using My Library Account on the Library Catalog. When your items arrive, on the Holds tab along with any items from the SCU libraries, the status line will read Available for Pickup Until followed by the last day on which you can check out the items at the Library Help Desk.
Once you check out the items, they will appear on the Checked Out Items tab along with any items you have borrowed from the SCU libraries.
How long may I keep Link+ items?
- Materials can be borrowed for 21 days and a single renewal can be requested for an additional 21 days. You must wait until 3 days prior to the original due date before you can request a renewal. The lending library may not permit a renewal.
- Materials not returned by the third overdue notice will result in a block on your library privileges.
- Items not returned will be billed at $115.
Which libraries belong to the Link+ consortium?
There are 70+ libraries that participate in Link+.
