Tuesday, February 10, 2009
1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
The Library presents Not a Genuine Black Man as the Winter 2009 Book of the Quarter. This book has been selected because it is also the choice for this year's Silicon Valley Reads program, a program which is presented by the San Jose Public Library Foundation, the Santa Clara County Library, and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
As SCU's contribution to this program, the Library is honored to have the book's author, Brian Copeland, on campus for a talk, discussion and book signing. The Book of the Quarter event will be held Tuesday, February 10 beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Saint Clare room on the 3rd floor of the Harrington Learning Commons, Sobrato Technology Center, and Orradre Library. The event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
You do not have to read the book to attend. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the campus bookstore. The Library has a copy of Not a Genuine Black Man and more copies are available through LINK+.
About the Book
A poignant, hilarious, and disarming memoir about growing up black in an all-white suburb, Not a Genuine Black Man is also a powerful contemplation on the meaning of race, and a thoughtful examination of how our surroundings make us who we are.
