A Shared Canvas

April 10 - May 1
2nd Floor, Outside Rooms 205 & 206

Inspired by the April 2026 Together at the Table international gathering organized by the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University (JST-SCU), the exhibition invites viewers into the creative endeavor of connection and belonging, exploring what it means to be a synodal community – that is, a community that walks together in trust, friendship, and good will, where every voice is welcomed and heard.

These select works from JST-SCU alumni, students, and staff examine the diverse facets of synodality, from representations of collective unity through art practice to acts of spiritual and group pilgrimage. Together, they present new ways of listening. These works serve as a thoughtful and hopeful vision to the power of shared conversation, spiritual reflection, and finding meaningful pathways together in mutual friendship and respect for a more just and caring world.

What is synodality? At its essence, it is a call from the Catholic Church to work towards a participatory-style mission, inviting all members of its faith communities to walk together and collaboratively reimagine a church that inspires active listening, welcomes diverse worldviews and conversation, and practices common discernment. Synodality is a lively spirituality that encourages us to take stock of the communal ties that unite us, and cultivate a church that journeys together in service and solidarity.
