Fall 2009
Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009
Noon - 1:30 pm
Nobili Hall Dining Room
Please join the University Library and Bon Appétit for the Fall 2009 Literary Cuisine. The featured book is On the Origin of Species, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's seminal work. The menu will include food from many phyla.
Professor Justen Whittall, who teaches evolutionary biology and whose research focuses on the evolution of plants and their pollinators, will present a lively, illustrated program. He'll recount personal details of one of Darwin's most famous predictions - the origin of an exceptional orchid from Madagascar. And, based on his own research, Whittall will illustrate with examples from columbines of North America, exploring the question, which came first: the long-spurred columbines or their long-tongued moth pollinators? Come find out.
The Campus Bookstore will have copies of On the Origin of Species for purchase at the event.
Bon Appétit will be serving a special meal for this celebration.
