Strategic Plan, 2025-30

Strategic Plan, 2025-30

Introduction

The University Library's 2025-30 Strategic Plan complements the University's vision to educate leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion and cultivate knowledge and faith to build a more humane, just, and sustainable world. The library's strategic priorities enact this vision by focusing efforts on goals, objectives and activities that help us re-imagine our services to help shape a future where knowledge uplifts justice, compassion, and the common good. This plan dovetails with the University's Impact 2030 strategic plan in its focus on scholarly community, innovative instruction, digital presence, impact assessment, and organizational optimization.

Planning Process

The 2025-2030 Library strategic plan was collaboratively developed by the Library Management Council and library staff members, led by consultant Sarah Cohen of Big Questions Collaborative. Through the planning process we explored key questions: What is important to us? Where do we want to go? What do we need to get there? and What are we committing to? The process yielded new mission, vision, and values statements and five key priorities. As part of the planning process, library staff, students, faculty, and staff were engaged through brainstorming, retreats, and one-on-one and group interviews.

Strategic Priorities

The following priorities set the direction for the Library over the term of its five-year strategic plan (2025-2030). Each priority is grounded in a definition that explains its purpose, scope, and intended impact. Beneath each definition are a set of core objectives that define areas of focus to guide action and help track progress. These priorities build on the existing work of the Library and reflect areas of growth taking into account current and future capacity, stakeholder feedback, and staff input.

Strengthening Scholarly Community

Foster a vibrant, inclusive scholarly culture where faculty and students feel supported, recognized, and connected through intentional services and recognition.

Innovating Instruction

Devise a values-driven approach to instruction that aligns with SCU's evolving academic needs, builds sustainable capacity, and empowers students and faculty through thoughtful, sustainable, and impactful learning experiences.

Transforming the Library's Digital Presence

Transform the Library's digital presence to better serve its users by aligning our website and tools with our capacity and our commitment to accessibility, discoverability, and academic excellence.

Assessing for Impact

Use assessment to spark curiosity, inform decisions, shape improvements, and communicate the Library's value more clearly and strategically.

Optimizing Our Organization

Reimagine responsibilities, structures, frameworks, and conditions necessary to collaborate effectively, focus our efforts, and make meaningful progress toward Library goals.
