Apply to live on campus during your Sophomore year!

As a reminder, there is a residency requirement for sophomores, unless they receive a residency exception. You can access the residency exception form in your housing portal.

The housing application for 2025-2026 Sophomores will open at 9:00AM on January 15, 2025!

2025-2026 Sophomore Housing Application

  1. Of course, you'll need access to the Internet. If you are having issues with the application, please try another browser. We have found that Chrome works the best.
  2. The on-campus housing application for 2025-2026 Sophomores is completed via your Housing Portal.
  3. A $500 pre-payment deposit; deposits can ONLY be paid using a debit or credit card. Obtaining a waiver for the pre-payment deposit is not available.
  4. Before beginning a housing application, you should confirm if you will apply with a group of other students or if you will be applying as an individual. If you apply as a member of a group, one member of the group will need to create a Group Profile and all other members of the group will need to connect their application to the Group's Profile. If you are not applying as a member of a group, you will not need to do anything.
  5. Make sure that you and all the members of your group complete the housing application by 5:00PM on February 5, 2025, in order to receive priority considerations; applications submitted AFTER February 5 are considered LATE.
  6. Students registered with the Office of Accessible Education will be notified by the Housing Office on next steps once their application is submitted.
  7. Make sure you only submit your application once you are sure about the answers you have provided, as changes cannot be made once you submit your application.

The deadline for completing the 2025-2026 Sophomore application is 5:00PM on February 5, 2025. Students who submit their application by this deadline will be processed and will participate in their respective room selection process, before any late applicants are placed.

I completed my application, now what? Room Selection!

  • The week of February 12, 2025, you will receive an email from housing@scu.edu to your scu.edu email address with your room selection information, including the date and time you will select your room. For the 2025-2026 process students who indicate on their housing application that they would like to return to their 2024-2025 RLC will be given priority to spaces in said RLC. Returning students/groups will select before new residents to the RLC.
  • All individuals within a group must be returners to their RLC. Mixed groups (i.e. resident A from Finn and Resident B from Dunne would go through the Open Room Selection process).
  • Students looking to move to a new RLC or who have a mixed group, will participate in the Open Room Selection process. During the Open Room Selection process, all spaces that are available at that time will be visible - this includes all spaces across campus.
  • Students registered with the Office of Accessible Education will be notified by the Housing office of next steps.
    • If you opt to go through the application and room selection process in a group, you are agreeing to waive your OAE approved housing accommodation.

Once Open Room Selection is complete,  you will be manually placed based on remaining availability.

How will I indicate where I want to live during the 2025-2026 academic year?

Residents who wish to return to their current community as an individual (not pairing yourself with a particular roommate) would select this option within the application. In this scenario, your lottery number, which is assigned after the application priority deadline, would determine when you would go through room selection to select a space in your current community.

Example:

Joey is currently living in Campisi/Magis and wishes to continue living in Campisi/Magis for the next academic school year. Joey would select Returner.

Returner Group is composed of residents who wish to return to their current community for the 2025-2026 academic year. EVERY member of the group must reside in their current community to be considered a “Returner Group.” If one group member is from a different community, the group is “Non-Returner.” The lottery number for roommate pairs or groups is determined by averaging the lottery number of all the individuals in the group.

Example:

Nancy and her 3 friends Eleven, Max, and Barb are all current residents of Sobrato. They want to be roommates and continue living in Sobrato for the 2025-2026 year. Nancy, Eleven, Max, and Barb will all choose Returner.

A resident who wishes to live in a new community for the 2025-2026 academic year and intends to complete the application as an individual, will select this option within the housing application.

Residents who choose this option will select their on-campus housing space from among any of the housing spaces that are available at the time of their designated room selection. In this scenario, your lottery number, which is assigned after the application priority deadline, would determine when you would go through room selection to select a space through open room selection.

Example:

Danny is currently living in Swig/Cyphi. However, he wishes to live in Sanfilippo/Magis for the next academic school year. Danny would select Non-Returners.

Non-Returner Group is composed of residents who want to live together for the 2025-2026 academic year regardless of their current community.

Due to space constraints, not all residents who choose this option will be able to join their desired community and will need to select a space, along with the other members of the group, in a new community during open room selection.

Example:

Tyrion (currently lives in Sobrato), Jon (currently lives in Graham), and Jaime (currently lives in Graham) decide to live together in Graham for the 2025-2026 year. Tyrion, Jon, and Jaime would select “Non-Returners.”

2024-2025 Sophomore Room Selection Information

As a reminder, there is a residency requirement for sophomores, unless they receive a residency exception. You can access the residency exception form via your housing portal. You must complete a housing application prior to applying for a residency exception. As a reminder, the Sophomore Housing Application closes on February 7th, 2024 and the Sophomore Residency Exception does not open until February 28th, 2024.

This page outlines the sophomore room selection process. Read thoroughly! Look at the charts below for helpful information! View the entire Room Selection schedule! Review the Room Selection tutorial video!

  1. The week of February 12, 2025, you will receive your room selection email from housing@scu.edu
  2. The order in which groups/individuals go through room selection is determined by the lottery number randomly assigned to each applicant. Groups will have their lottery numbers averaged to assign their room selection date and time.
  3. All Groups and Individuals will have the same priority when assigned for room selection. Groups and Individuals returning to their RLC will select first in their respective RLC. As a reminder, in order to be considered a returner, all members of the group must be returning to their current (academic year 2024-2025) RLC/building.
  4. Groups and Individuals who are non-returners will select their space during the Open Room Selection process, which will show all spaces available across campus. We will not make any changes to applications after you submit them.
  5. You will be able to view floor plans and prepare for your room selection appointment via your 2025-2026 housing application (Rooms tab). This will allow you and your group members to see available spaces, occupancy, and configurations prior to your room selection date. Note, the availability of rooms you see will change as students with earlier room selection appointments select their spaces.
  6. If your desired space is not available (e.g. has already been reserved), it is imperative that you pick any space available to ensure you have a place to live. If you are unhappy with the space you selected, you can add yourself to the room change waiting list. As a reminder, you may cancel your 2025-2026 application and receive a deposit refund until May 1, 2025.
  7. If you are a non-returning group/individual, you will see all available spaces for 2025-2026 Sophomore students that have not been reserved by students who returned to their communities. If your desired space is not available (e.g. has already been reserved), it is imperative that you pick any space available to ensure you have a place to live. If you are unhappy with the space you selected, the housing office will offer a waitlist option. We will publish what the waitlist will look like as we near Room Selection for 2025-2026. As a reminder, you may cancel your 2025-2026 application and receive a deposit refund until May 1, 2025.
  8. You will have a limited amount of time to select a space before additional students log on. For this reason, it is important that you select a space during your designated time.
  9. If you are part of a group, any confirmed group member can select your space during the room selection appointment. In the event you would like to separate from the group you originally signed up with or there is not a space that can accommodate all group members, each individual within the group has the ability to place themselves in a different space during the room selection appointment.
  10. Contact housing@scu.edu if you have any questions.
