Magis RLC
The Magis Residential Learning Community (RLC) is a traditional-style, co-ed community of first and second-year students, focused on the theme of inclusive dialogue and action. The RLC is housed within Campisi and Sanfilippo residence halls.
Guided by our motto, "Our Common Home - Seeking More for the Common Good," the Magis RLC calls students to enter into inclusive dialogue and action about how we individually and collectively shape the future of our planet. Students work together to understand their place in the world, their impact, and the connections that link global and local ecologies. Rooted in a common humanity that requires diverse voices, this RLC encourages interdisciplinary creativity and social innovation to address the world’s most pressing problems relating to ecology, sustainability, and climate change. Through transformative action, students create a future of hope.
Our community provides a co-ed, traditional-style living experience for approximately 400 first and second-year students. About 60 percent of our residents are first-year students and 40 percent are second-year residents.
Students are engaged with the leadership opportunities in the community, build strong relationships with their neighbors and staff, and find a vibrant community at the hall's front desk, which often serves as a social area.
Every Residential Learning Community (RLC) offers several programs and events each week. Community Facilitators and Leadership Councils host floor and building-wide socials, facilitate activities to promote wellness and mental health, lead students to on-campus events, and organize service opportunities.
Programs and events have exceptionally high attendance. Events that have traditionally happened in Magis (Campisi) RLC include ResHall Ball, a formal dance hosted for the whole campus by Communitas's Leadership Council, building-wide Monday Night Socials, which take place weekly throughout the year, a finals week coffee cart, and adventures to events happening on campus or in the local community, like Rainbow Prom and culture shows.
Theme programming typically centers on immersion and service trips including San Jose Urban Plunge, Relay for Life, sock drives, campus clean ups, and volunteering with local homeless shelters. Residents are offered several opportunities each quarter to participate in these opportunities both inside their community and off campus.
Our staff is comprised of 12 Community Facilitators (CFs), 1 Spirituality Facilitator (SF), 1 Faculty Director (FD), 1 Assistant Resident Director (ARD), and 1 Resident Director (RD).
The Magis RLC 2024-2025 team includes:
