Class of 2018 Launch College Careers at Santa Clara University
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sep. 22, 2014 --Members of Santa Clara University’s Class of 2018 launched their college careers with the start of classes for the 2014-2015 academic year today.
The campus is bustling with more than 5,000 students, including more than 1,300 freshmen. Of the freshman enrolled this year, 57 percent are from California, 40 percent from out-of-state and nearly 3 percent are international students. The class is evenly split between male and female.
The majority of the undergraduate class of 2018 is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences (54 percent), followed by the Leavey School of Business (25 percent) and the School of Engineering (21 percent). The School of Engineering has seen a spike in enrollment compared to the Class of 2015 graduating this year, up 7 percentage points from freshman four years ago (14 percent).
The majority of students from the class of 2018 were born in 1996 when Steve Jobs returned to Apple; Bill Gates graced the cover of Time magazine after releasing Internet Explorer 3; E.R. and Seinfeld were the two most popular TV shows; and Pope John Paul II made international headlines by declaring evolution and creationism could coexist.
