In 2004, Santa Clara University received its first Osher Foundation grant to fund a Lifelong Learning Institute on campus. Santa Clara University is a private university founded in 1851 by the Society of Jesus. Today it is California's oldest institute of higher learning with over 6,000 undergraduate students. In 2008, after achieving a 500 member program, the Osher Foundation awarded SCU with a one-million dollar endowment to continue its building of the institute.
