Organizational Change Management

The Leading Through Laudato Si’ planning process has been co-sponsored by the Division of Mission & Ministry and the Center for Sustainability. The Division of Mission & Ministry’s involvement keeps a focus on the justice and community engagement aspects of this plan. The Center for Sustainability leads SCU’s sustainability organizational change management and orchestrates the implementation of this plan. The Center coordinates process management, facilitates both the Implementation Team and Executive Sponsor meetings, manages data collection, and fosters transparency via reports, presentations, storytelling, and other opportunities for campus and community engagement. Since this plan leads the University’s strategic sustainability work through 2030, it’s critical that flexibility and adaptability are embedded within our implementation roadmap – including sharing successes, updates, and pivots.

Executive Sponsors and Implementation Teams

The Vice President of the Division of Mission & Ministry and the Director of the Center for Sustainability are co-chairs of this process. Executive Sponsors provide high-level support and guidance for this work, while the Implementation Teams provide embedded structures for tactical implementation. Implementation Team Leads are responsible for the project management of activities to achieve each Implementation Team’s goal, strategies, actions, and tasks, and serve as a liaison between their Implementation Team and the team’s Executive Sponsor. See the full list of Executive Sponsors and Implementation Team members.

Opportunities for Individual and Collective Action

While the entire SCU community was invited to give their ideas during the initial roadshows, there are still plenty of opportunities for personal actions.

The new Sustainability Playbooks program encourages faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni / community members to take actions to learn, live, lead, and launch in key sustainability areas. The Change Maker badge celebrates those who actively address and systematically transform the root causes of sustainability issues within society through the integration of comprehensive, long-term improvements for both individuals and communities.
