The University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship

The University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship recognizes scholarly or creative work over the previous five years by a faculty member that represents a major contribution to a field of knowledge or to the arts.

    Yi Fang, Department of Computer Science and Engineering

     

    Dr. Yi Fang has made outstanding contributions to the field of Responsible AI, publishing over 30 papers in top-tier journals and conferences within the past five years. His work combines theoretical rigor with practical applications, focusing on fairness and accountability in AI across diverse sectors, including web search, e-commerce, media, and energy. Dr. Fang’s impact is further evidenced by over 2,850 citations since 2020 and an h-index of 34. He has secured more than $1.5 million in external research funding, largely supporting his work in Responsible AI. Notably, most of his publications include SCU students as co-authors, reflecting his strong commitment to student engagement and mentoring through research.
