Learning Commons' Computing and Media Facilities

The Learning Commons offers a variety of technology-enhanced facilities for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Training and Instruction Rooms - LC 203, 205, 206

    Learning Commons 203 (30 workstations), 205 (50 workstations), and 206 (20 workstations) support instructional sessions for the Library and Technology Training. When the spaces are not being used for instruction, they are available as drop-in labs.

    The labs are primarily macOS with several Windows PCs available. macOS software includes:

  • Digital Media Lab - LC 327

    The Lab supports digital media production and is available for drop-in use or technology instruction.

    32 iMacs run Adobe Creative Cloud, Audacity, Chrome, Firefox, GarageBand, Books, iMovie, Apple Music, Google Earth, IBM SPSS, Keynote, Microsoft Office, Numbers, Pages, SentinelOne, Switch Sound File Converter, VLC Player, Zoom, Adobe Reader DC, Camtasia, and the Wacom Tablet driver.

    Scanners and source decks are available for multimedia and digital video production.

    The instructional technology team supports students working on digital media assignments in the Lab.

  • Edit Suites - LC 131, 132

    Two edit suites are available for individual or group projects. The systems are MAC based and run Adobe Creative Cloud, Audacity, Chrome, Firefox, GarageBand, Books, iMovie, Apple Music, Final Cut Pro, Google Earth, IBM SPSS, Insta 360 (Pro, Player, Stitcher, Studio), Keynote, Logic Pro X, Microsoft Office, Numbers, Pages, Pixlr, SentinelOne, Switch Sound File Converter, VLC Player, Zoom, Adobe Reader DC, Camtasia, and the Wacom Tablet driver. Additionally, the edit suites have scanners and source decks for multimedia and digital video production.

    The edit suites can also be used for small group (2-3) recordings.

  • Viewing & Taping A, B, and C - LC 129, 133, 134

    Viewing and Taping A (58 seats), B (29 seats), C (20 seats) are reservable for recording role play sessions, group discussions, presentations, and lectures; for screening videos, web conferences, and webinars.

  • Upper and Lower Commons Computer Stations

    The Upper and Lower Commons are located on the 1st floor and Lower Level and have a mix of Windows-based Dell desktops and iMacs available for student use.

    iMacs are running Audacity, Chrome, Firefox, GarageBand, Books, iMovie, Apple Music, Google Earth, IBM SPSS, Keynote, Microsoft Office, Numbers, Pages, SentinelOne, VLC Player, Zoom, and Adobe Reader DC.

    The "upper commons" (1st floor) and "lower commons" (lower level) Dell computers have: Windows 11, Acrobat Reader DC, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, Pharos (SmartPrint), SentinelOne, VLC Player, IrfanView, R Statistical Software, RStudio and IBM SPSS.
    There is one scanner available on the first floor that is open to the public at no cost (15-minute limit). Two additional scanners (one attached to a Mac, one attached to a PC) require a Santa Clara University network login to access.
