What we do
Pursuant to Santa Clara University’s Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy and applicable law, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX coordinates supportive measures, investigates reports, and resolves complaints of protected class discrimination, Title IX sexual harassment, and other civil rights-based offenses. The Office is also responsible for educating the campus community about the EO/TIX Policy and related procedures. Accommodations related to pregnancy and parenting also fall within the Office's purview. The Director and members of the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Team are committed to serving the campus community with neutrality and independence, free from bias and conflicts of interest.
Our commitment emphasizes five key areas:
- Policy: SCU’s Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy (“EO/TIX Policy”) is the foundation for identifying and addressing prohibited conduct and is the guide for all processes and procedures we follow.
- Training and Education: Our goal is to prevent discrimination, sex-based harassment (including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking), retaliation, and other civil rights offenses before they happen.
- Supportive Measures and Pregnancy Accommodations: Our promise is to provide appropriate support to individuals involved in our processes.
- Investigation and Resolution: Upon receiving a formal complaint, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX will be responsible for investigating the complaint in a manner that is prompt, equitable, thorough, reliable, and impartial. All formal complaints will be handled by a trained investigator.
- Patterns and Trends: Our policy may be applied to incidents, patterns, and/or culture climate issues. The Director may also determine, based on a pattern of misconduct and other factors, that a threat assessment or violence risk assessment should be conducted to determine whether there is a compelling risk to health and safety that requires the University to pursue formal action to protect the community.
