Fire Alarm, Detection and Suppression System
Tampering
Installed systems shall not be tampered with in any way. Tampering is considered a criminal act and is defined as:
- Any intentional or malicious activation of a system when there is no emergency.
- Falsely reporting the activation of a system.
- The intentional deactivation of a system either by disconnecting, breaking or removing devices, wiring, etc.
Obstructing
No part of the fire system shall be obstructed at any time. Obstruction includes the following conditions:
- There must be at least two (2) feet of clearance in all directions of the fire alarm pull stations.
- Fire alarms/bells/horns/strobes shall not be blocked or muffled.
- Smoke/heat/beam detectors shall not be covered unless specifically authorized by the SCU Fire Protection Technician during renovations or special operations.
- Storage shall not be within 18 inches of sprinkler heads.
- Nothing shall be hung or wrapped around any device or piping.
- Fire department connections, PIVs and standpipes shall be unobstructed at all times.
