Building Maintenance

Building Maintenance
Hours of Operation

Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM

The Building Maintenance team provides a multitude of skills and services; including the trades of carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, painting, and many more. Main campus buildings are divided amongst the team, allowing relationships to be built between the building occupants and Facilities mechanics.  The various services offered to the campus help maintain efficient workplaces, preserve the historic atmosphere of the campus, as well as address comfort levels with regards to proper temperature and lighting levels.

The Preventative Maintenance Program is designed to aid Building Maintenance with inspections, replacements, repairs, and overall care of parts, equipment, and buildings throughout our campus.  We do this by taking the maintenance requirements throughout Santa Clara University and implementing scheduled services for all the work to be done during a specific time. This helps us be as efficient as possible when taking care of the equipment on campus, as well as minimizes downtime and interruptions for students, faculty, staff, and guests. For example, instead of waiting for a fan belt to snap, causing poor ventilation and discomfort in a building, we create a yearly replacement for all exhaust fan belts throughout campus.  It is this type of preventative maintenance that allows a fluid operation to continue its path without the worry of malfunctioning equipment during our daily routines. Below are a few (of many) examples of our preventative maintenance style work orders.

Preventative Maintenance Frequency
Exhaust fan inspections/replacements Monthly, Quarterly/Yearly
Building inspections Monthly
Battery replacements 1-3 Years
Storm drain clearing Yearly
Sump pumps inspections Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly
Water softeners inspection Semi-Monthly
Grease traps clearing Quarterly
