About the Program - Young Scholars Program

The Young Scholars Program challenges students going into their junior or senior year of high school to grow personally and academically within a supportive community of students, faculty, and staff. The program has two key components:

Classes

Instead of thinking and talking about what might happen in college, Young Scholars directly experience it by taking college courses in Santa Clara’s summer session alongside college students. In consultation with the program director, Young Scholars enroll in one or two lower-division university courses from the first five-week session of Santa Clara’s summer program, and earn college credit upon successful completion of their course(s).These courses are typically part of the curriculum at most universities. Young Scholars learn how to manage the workload and the responsibilities of college-level study. During the program, Young Scholars have access to the program director and college advisors who assist them in resolving problems or responding to other questions.

Camaraderie

The Young Scholars Program’s small size allows Young Scholars to interact with students from many schools by sharing courses and attending program events. During orientation, students tour the campus, obtain a student ID card (ACCESS card), meet and mingle with fellow Young Scholars, and have lunch with Summer Sessions staff.

Summer 2024 Tuition Information

Tuition

Tuition is $610 per unit, which is a reduced rate. Tuition is due May 21, 2024. Information on how to pay the tuition will be sent to accepted students once they have enrolled in their class(es). The list of classes contains the number of units for each course.

1 Unit: $610 

2 Units: $1,220 

3 Units: $1,830 

4 Units: $2,440

5 Units: $3,050

Please note: Santa Clara University accepts payment by credit card for the application fee only. The University does not accept debit or credit cards for payment of tuition and fees. Young Scholars are responsible for purchasing their own books, supplies, and other personal items (including a parking permit, if applicable).

Late Payment Fee

A $100 late payment fee and a hold that prevents registration and/or enrollment changes will be assessed to the student for every month the balance remains unpaid.

Dewar Tuition Insurance Plan

Santa Clara has partnered with A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., to provide protection from loss of funds paid toward tuition should you need to withdraw from school for diagnosed medical or mental health reasons. Students are not automatically enrolled in the Tuition Insurance Plan during Summer Sessions. For information regarding Tuition Insurance for Summer Sessions, please contact Dewar directly at 617-774-1555 or trp@dewarinsurance.com, and they will assist with plan enrollment. You must contact Dewar before June 20 (the first day of class) to purchase the Tuition Insurance.

Transportation & Housing

Transportation and campus housing are not available for Young Scholars.

Office of Accessible Education

Santa Clara University provides support and reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities who complete registration with the Office of Accessible Education. In order to receive accommodations for a disability, student must register with the Office. Students will be required to upload professional documentation to address specific criteria documenting the disability.
