Asian Studies Program

The Asian Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary minor open to students from any undergraduate school or college in the University. The minor is designed to provide an introduction to the cultures and languages of Asia and to serve as a valuable complement to major fields of study. Courses in several disciplines enable students to sample different dimensions of Asian culture as well as focus on a specific area of interest.

The minor in Catholic studies, open to students from all departments, is an interdisciplinary program for the study of the intellectual tradition of the Catholic faith. The minor is designed for intensive study of Catholicism as a faith embedded in many cultures and for the critical retrieval of the Catholic intellectual tradition through dialogue with contemporary thought under the rubrics of a variety of academic disciplines.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) provides continuing education opportunities for adults 18 and over. Courses run 4 quarters (Summer, Fall, Winter & Spring) and are for non-matriculated students. There aren't any tests, homework, grades or preparation needed. Classes and events are membership based and you can join here scu.edu/osher to be part of a rich learning community.

Sustainability Program (Academic)

The sustainability minor is easily accessible to all Santa Clara University undergraduates as it incorporates existing classes from different schools. This minor allows students to integrate an understanding of sustainability into their course of study from different disciplinary perspectives and in interdisciplinary ways.

Urban Education Program

The minor in urban education provides Santa Clara undergraduate students seeking to become elementary or secondary teachers with the basics in educational theory, urban school observation and reflective experiences, Constitutional history of the United States, and the sociological and psychological foundations of education. The urban education minor has two distinctive components: foundational courses in education and a focus on urban and multi-cultural education issues grounded in the Jesuit commitment to social justice. The Urban Education minor is offered through the Child Studies Program in the College of Arts & Science. Office hours scheduled by appointment.
