The College of Arts and Sciences at Santa Clara University is committed to increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice for all of our students, faculty, and staff.
JEDI Council
The JEDI Council is composed of faculty and staff with expertise in equity issues. They advise the Dean, suggest new policies and advise on issues of climate and equity for students, staff and faculty in the College.
Cluster Hire Program
The College of Arts and Sciences is engaged in a multi-year cluster hire program in areas including race, social justice and inequality across disciplines in the social sciences, natural sciences, arts and humanities.

FAROUT Program
FAROUT (Fostering Art and Research Opportunities through Undergraduate Training), piloted in 2023-24, will provide stipends for faculty collaborating with undergraduates beyond the classroom, on scholarly or creative projects. This program ensures that more students have access to these high impact learning practices. For more information, contact Associate Dean Kat Saxton.
REAL Program
The REAL Program provides paid experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Placements range from non-profit and community service organizations to research labs, governmental organizations, and beyond.
Black Justice Studies Collaborative
The BJSC, led by Inaugural Director Dr. Harry Odamtten, serves as an intellectual and creative hub for faculty and students working at the intersection of Black Studies and Justice Studies. The BJSC is also supported by the SCU Law School and will bring speakers, provide research opportunities for students and host a mini-conference in its first two years.
Associate Professor Support Initiative
Designed to support associate professors who have invested a significant amount of professional time and energy into important University leadership roles, this initiative will support faculty as they adjust their focus back to their own research and creative work.
Center for the Arts and Humanities
The CAH foregrounds work that examines crucial social justice issues across a variety of disciplines. From the Urgency of Now series to their 2024-25 theme, “Belonging, Community and Home,” the scholars and artists working with the Center “pursue meaningful expression and intellectual inquiry--the building blocks for a better future and a more just world.”
Community Heritage Lab
Founded in 2018, the Community Heritage Lab (CHL) is an interdisciplinary research collaborative devoted to community engagement, research, and storytelling about the heritage of Santa Clara University and its surrounding communities.
Diversity Core
Faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences provide the vast majority of the Core Curriculum to students across the entire university. This is especially true for the Diversity requirement of the Core which is solely provided by CAS faculty, and most commonly from the Ethnic Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies Departments.
