The Asian Studies Minor (ASM) offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the cultures and languages of Asia. The minor requires six culture courses and completion of the introductory-level sequence in an Asian language. Culture courses include approved offerings focused on East, South, or Southeast Asia in disciplines including anthropology, art history, communication, history, philosophy, political science, and religious studies. Students must complete two lower-division and four upper-division culture classes. Language courses are available in Japanese and Chinese, although the study of other Asian languages or native proficiency is accepted with the director’s approval. Please note that courses about the Asian American experience are considered ethnic studies courses and do not count for the minor.
