A San Francisco native, Lissa Crofton-Sleigh received her B.A. in Greek and Latin (minor in Music History) from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a dissertation on architectural ekphrases in Roman poetry. She has taught all levels of Latin and Greek language and literature, as well as courses on Greek and Roman mythology, Classics in translation, ancient and modern sports and spectacle, Roman baths, and etymology. Her research interests include Augustan and Flavian poetry, Greek and Roman art and architecture, religion and ritual, digital humanities, and the reception of Classics in music. Most recently, she has co-edited a volume on the implementation of XR technology (virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and more) in humanities and art education, published by Amherst College Press in 2024.
