David Coad
David Coad is a proud Super Bronco, as a Santa Clara University alumnus and faculty member. Coad is an award-winning, nationally-published scholar in the disciplines of digital literacies and first-year composition pedagogy. He has over 15 years of experience teaching writing, and holds a PhD in Education with an emphasis in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies from the University of California, Davis.
Coad deeply resonates with the teaching process; his hope as a mission-driven educator is for students to find meaningful connections to themselves, their peers, and broader scholarly communities by navigating and negotiating the digital cultural narratives we swim in.
Coad is co-editor of two teaching-focused books: Dynamic Activities for First-Year Composition (2023) and Digital Literacies for Human Connection (2025), both from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). You can find Coad’s research on digital literacies in the nationally acclaimed academic journals Kairos: Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy, Computers and Composition, and the Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy.
