I work on 20th century U.S. political and environmental history. I'm especially interested in critiques of the mainstream environmental movement in the late 20th century. While many aspects of my research engages with the intersection of conservatism, populism, and anti-environmentalism in the New Right in the late 20c. American West, I'm also interested in divisions within the environmental movement and the alternatives to mainstream environmentalism that emerged in the 1980s and 1990s. My current research examines the development of these different critiques of the mainstream environmental movement and their effect on land use, environmental, and climate change policy from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
