Michael Whalen is a documentary filmmaker who teaches screenwriting, film/tv production and history courses on Hollywood and the U.S. film/television industry. Prior to returning to Santa Clara to teach, he spent 10 years living in Los Angeles as a working television writer, producer and director.

Chris is a political ecologist and an agroecologist. His research focuses on agriculture, food security, and how food systems relate to climate change, environmental justice, and sustainability transitions.

Elsa Chen teaches American politics, public policy, and research methods. Her research focuses on criminal justice sentencing policy, including racial and ethnic disparities in sentencing outcomes and the effects of mandatory minimum sentencing policies, the implementation of sentencing reform, criminal record expungement, and prisoner reentry.
