Lieutenant Colonel Melan P. Salas Promoted to Colonel
Santa Clara University and the Military Science program congratulate Lieutenant Colonel Melan P. Salas on his recent promotion to Colonel.
Colonel Salas has served as an Active Duty Army Officer in the United States Armed Forces for 22 years and he is a career Air and Missile Defense and Cyber Electronic Warfare Officer. Salas was a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Guam’s Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in 1998 where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. He also has a Masters of Science degree in human resource leadership concentration in organizational development from the University of Louisville and will be completing his Masters of Arts in educational leadership from SCU this Winter 2021.
Since his commission, Salas has participated in numerous Humanitarian and Combat Operations, has received countless decorations, and attended numerous specialty schools. As the Director and Professor of Military Science at Santa Clara University, Salas has provided leadership, direction, and support to the ROTC Bronco Battalion for the past two and a half years.
Salas expresses his gratitude for those who were able to attend and support him for the ceremony. Special thanks to the officiating officer Colonel (retired) Miguel Hobbs, his family in Guam and Tennessee, Santa Clara community partners, and the many Santa Clara University, Stanford, University of California, Santa Cruz, and San Jose State University staff that he has worked with over the past few years. Salas’ next assignment this summer will be as the Assistant Commandant at the Cyber Center of Excellence, Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA.
