Jill Pellettieri
Jill Pellettieri received her M.A. in Spanish and her Ph.D. in Spanish applied linguistics from the University of California, Davis. She was the first recipient of the Designated Emphasis in Second Language Acquisition from the U.C. Davis Second Language Acquisition Institute. She specializes in instructed second language acquisition, computer-mediated interaction and community-based learning. She has authored and coauthored scholarly articles on instructed language learning as well as several textbooks for the teaching of Spanish in the university setting.
Prof. Pellettieri has been teaching Spanish and linguistics at the university level since 1989. Prior to coming to SCU, she worked at U.C. Davis and Cal State San Marcos, where she also served as the Graduate Language Teaching-Assistant trainer/supervisor and as Chair of the Dept. of World Languages. She has been a tenured, Associate Professor at SCU since 2005, and in addition to her teaching and research she served for six years as the Chair of the Dept. of Modern Languages & Literatures. She currently serves as the department's Language Coordinator.
Professor Pellettieri is passionate about teaching and motivating students in the areas of Spanish language and cultures as well as linguistics, the science of language. When not working, Professor Pellettieri enjoys all things Spanish/Latino, including literature, film, food and wine, as well as staying active through dancing, cycling, running, sea kayaking and SUP-boarding. She has traveled widely throughout the world, and is a two-time "peregrina", having twice completed the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, a 500-mile spiritual journey across northern Spain on a mountain-bike.
