Professor Christine Wieseler’s (she/her) areas of specialization are feminist philosophy, biomedical ethics, and philosophy of disability. She has published numerous articles at the intersection of these areas in journals including Hypatia, IJFAB: International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, American Association of Philosophy Teachers Studies in Pedagogy, Social Philosophy Today, Journal of Philosophy of Disability and Journal of Social Philosophy. Joel Michael Reynolds and Wieseler co-edited The Disability Bioethics Reader, the first edited volume to introduce readers to core moral issues within bioethics through the lens of disability justice and by centering the lived experiences of members of oppressed groups.
Much of Professor Wieseler’s scholarly work involves taking feminist approaches to epistemic and moral issues within biomedical ethics and phenomenology. For example, she is currently engaged in research focusing on the relevance of critical phenomenology for understanding epistemic injustice within bioethics, particularly in assessing the value of the concept “medical gaslighting.”
