Bachana Lomsadze Recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences
Professor Joseph Bayma, S.J., Scholarship Award
In recognition of having established among colleagues and students a well-deserved reputation for productive, meaningful, and rigorous scholarly or creative work, and for having demonstrated the ability to motivate other scholars or artists, teachers, and learners.
Bachana Lomsadze arrived at Santa Clara University five years ago and was already a world-renowned physicist. Hitting the ground running, in these short few years, Bacha managed formidable accomplishments building a world-leading research program while navigating the hardships associated with the move from Daly Science to the Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation.
Published in top-tier journals, Bacha co-authored a book recently published by Oxford University Press, received a patent, secured NSF grants, including the prestigious NSF CAREER grant, and as his crowning achievement, has very recently become the proud father of Natalie. With all these achievements, Bacha has become an effective and much-loved instructor, developing new courses and mentoring students in his lab. His research students receive excellent training and encouragement to do outstanding work in the lab; they present their work at conferences, co-author high-profile publications, and win awards.
These remarkable achievements are made possible due to Bacha’s exceptional hands-on lab skills, intellectual curiosity, passion for physics, exceptional scientific creativity, and sheer grit.
