Omid Ahmadi-Gorgi Recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences
Dean’s Service Award
In recognition of exemplary service in support of the College of Arts and Sciences. By honoring such leaders, the College demonstrates its commitment to College, University, community, and/or professional service as essential to our mission, governance, and enhancing our community of teaching scholars.
About to start his 11th year at Santa Clara University, Omid Ahmadi-Gorgi, Senior Instructor and Instructional Facilities Manager in the Physics Department, has long been recognized as an outstanding teacher both in the classroom and, particularly, in the teaching lab.
Omid consistently garners rave reviews from his students, who are unanimous in their appreciation and praise for him and have described Omid as "helpful and always available, knowledgeable, engaging and passionate, interesting and fun." It is also common to find a more personal thank you in narrative evaluations. One example being, "Never change, Dr. Ahmadi-Gorgi. You've been a great friend to me and believed in me more than any other teacher at SCU."
Omid is being recognized with the Dean’s Service Award for going above and beyond. He uses the lab not just to train students to do and analyze experiments that bring theory alive, but also as a place where they can bring their questions (and often confusion) from lecture. Walking by the lab, you’re likely to see him giving a tutorial or helping students work through problems on the board.
Says one of his colleagues, “Omid is extraordinarily generous with his time. He wants all of us—students and teachers—to succeed, and he works hard behind the scenes to make this happen. He has never sought out praise or recognition; he only cares that the students learn.”
Congratulations, Omid!
