2022 Panetta Congressional Intern
Jordan Tachibana '23 represented Santa Clara University for the 2022 cycle of the Panetta Institute for Public Policy Congressional Internship Program.
Before heading to Washington, D.C., to serve in the nation's capital, Jordan Tachibana '23 participated in a two-week orientation held at California State University, Monterey Bay. While in Monterey Bay, Jordan was able to learn from some of the country's most distinguished leaders including Secretary Leon Panetta '60 J.D. '63; Secretary Janet Napolitano '79; and Vice President Dan Quayle. Orientation lectures covered a variety of topics such as the budget crisis and fiscal challenges, national security, and most importantly - the value of bipartisanship in lawmaking.
In D.C., Jordan served in the Office of Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, who represents California's 51st Congressional District. In her day-to-day, she worked on legislative issues, assisted senior staffers, and attended hearings and briefings. Jordan's legislative work focused on Rep. Jacobs' work on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as defense, homelessness, and data privacy.
Jordan was honored to represent Santa Clara University on Capitol Hill and noted, "I owe a great deal to the generosity of the Panetta Institute for the opportunity to serve our democracy. This program fosters a new generation of leaders and I am beyond grateful for all of the support and mentorship I received as an intern. I cannot thank them enough for their dedication to their students and the treasured friendships I built with members of my cohort."
Jordan looks forward to pursuing a career in public service following graduation and is currently serving as an intern in Congressman Ro Khanna's district office in Santa Clara.
