Bianca Rodriguez (nee Zardetto) graduated in 2015 from the Psychology Department and earned a Counseling Psychology degree with an emphasis on Latino Counseling from the SCU Counseling Psychology program. For the last four years, Bianca has been working on full clinical licensure and has had experiences working as a bilingual Marriage and Family Therapy trainee. She also provides therapy in community, office, and school-based settings. While at SCU, Bianca worked for both Dr. Lucia Gilbert (Emerita) on women winemakers research and in Dr. Kirsten Read’s lab exploring how dual language learning children best learn from bilingual storybooks. Their work was recently published in the journal Early Education and Development.

Bianca writes about her time at SCU:

“My experiences as a student researcher with Dr. Read and Dr. Gilbert in the Psychology Department gave me invaluable experiences that helped guide my career path. With Dr. Read’s recommendation, I worked as a researcher at the Children’s Discovery Museum throughout my graduate program. My role as a researcher at the museum allowed me to continue developing my research skills. This experience also solidified my passion for working directly with children and families to empower them to create meaningful change in their lives. I recognize that the mentorship, support, and guidance from the Psychology faculty have led me to where I am today. Their passion for research and education has stayed with me over the years and I am considering returning to school in the near future to pursue a doctorate degree and conduct research of my own."
