Aron Tillema

Lecturer

Aron Tillema received his B.A. in Biblical Studies from Azusa Pacific University (2010), his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (2017), and his M.A. (2020) and Ph.D. (2023) in Religious Studies from the University of California, Davis. He has taught courses at the intersection of Biblical and Religious Studies at the University of California, Davis and Centre College, including The Bible & Its Interpreters and Religion and Nature. He looks forward to joining the faculty at Santa Clara to continue teaching in the Department of Religious Studies in Fall 2024 with courses like Religions of the Book, Introduction to New Testament, and Religion and Environment. Dr. Tillema’s research broadly focuses on the relationship between religion and language, investigating how speech mediates religious experience through linguistic anthropology and semiotics. He has brought his expertise to bear on his dissertation on Jonah, the social role of gender in the book of Lamentations, and more.
