Kevin Chaves

Kevin Chaves received his Ph.D. from the Department of Religious Studies at Stanford University, and his BA from Occidental College in LA . His area of expertise is in modern western religious thought and continental philosophy of religion, with a focus on Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, and religious and poetic language. Kevin’s research and special interests range from the philosophy of Heidegger and Paul Ricoeur, theories of narrative, metaphor, and historiography, to the intersections of religion and technology.

Kevin has taught courses on philosophy of religion, existentialism and nihilism, Heidegger and Nietzsche, sociology of religion, religion and science fiction, religion and cyberspace, as well as religious studies theories and methods and expository writing.

Kevin was born and raised in the Bay Area and currently lives in Oakland with his wife, two children, and two cats Picante and Ginger.
