Alumni Careers Panel
Sociology Alumni speak about the variety of career pathways available
This year, the department hosted two informative career exploration/development and networking events with SCU alumni who majored in sociology. The guest speakers shared their professional experiences and advice on career discernment, finding purpose, and other ways to prepare for post-graduate success with current SCU sociology majors.
In February, majors and minors gathered together with the students of Dr. Chiaraluce’s Soc 198 course to hear about the innovative and interesting careers pursued by alumni of the Sociology Department. With positions inside and outside the university, these alumni provided insights and advice to current SCU students about how to leverage their skills learned in Sociology in the current job market.
In April, Dr. Chiaraluce’s Soc 198 class learned about a variety of career preparation strategies, like managing up, personal branding, and career survival skills from guest speaker Kathleen Nelson Troyer. Students received individualized job coaching and answers to their questions from a seasoned professional career coach and recruiting consultant.
The Career Center is launching a new mentoring program just for social science and humanities majors.
