This past March, I had the privilege of attending the Pacific Sociological Association Conference with sociology professor Dr. Molly King. I have been researching disability and climate change with Dr. King for the past year and a half, and the conference provided an amazing opportunity to share our research and receive valuable feedback.

Our early-morning presentation attracted a few eager listeners, and the smaller setting allowed for open conversation with both the attendees and our fellow presenters. Through discussion, we were able to think deeper about our research and what we plan to do with our findings. I was able to connect with a few other people with similar interests, and I was excited to hear more about the important work they’re doing.

Presenting was only a small part of the PSA experience: I was amazed at the variety of sessions being offered. Presentation topics ranged from Twitter habits of Italian political leaders to a sociological perspective on endometriosis, and it was difficult to pick any one session in a given timeframe. All attendees were incredibly welcoming and open to discussion, and there are many people I hope to meet up with at future conferences. I was inspired by the work being done, and I’m excited to continue my own research and contribute to a larger body of work.

I would like to thank donors to the SCU Sociology Department for funding this trip. It was an incredible experience, and I am so grateful for the ongoing support of the department and faculty.
